Designer Solange Azagury – Partridge
Doesn’t the Metamorphosis film just make you smile?
My two favourite stories in the film are ‘The Secret Garden’ and ‘Through the Keyhole’.
Its energy resonates with how I feel about jewellery – light hearted and fun and playful. Yes you may have an exquisitely crafted jewel, beauties in silver or an inherited piece or even highly valued costume pieces – whatever the case, they’re meant to be taken out into the world and worn with ease, enjoyed and made part of your expression, energy and hopefully… some ‘fun’ of the day!
The 7 minute film shows Solange Azagury – Partridge’s Metamorphosis Collection. Exquisite creations of fun, they’re wearable pieces that captivate with its playfulness, its fantasy. I love its transformable qualities!
When I was watching this, one of her inspirations came to mind. The ‘cloud’ and her thoughts about it… “Another magical, beautiful element of nature, so solid and comfortable looking. Heavy with tons of water droplets and yet it floats in the sky. Who has never wanted to sleep on a cloud.”
Known as a queen of colour, she is a self taught jewellery designer with a heartfelt philosophy: “I just want my jewels to add a bit of joy to life.” Her engagement ring in 1987 was the first piece of jewellery she made. The jewel that started it all!
Solange first started out at Butler & Wilson, a costume jewellery shop in London before she went on to work for an antique dealer Gordon Watson and then on to become the Creative Director of Boucheron.
She is now both designer and founder of her own brand with shops in London, Paris and New York, the interior of each a fusion of colour. I imagine walking into such spaces surrounded by unexpected combinations of interior colour to be a unique ‘wow’ experience!
To me both her philosophy and inspiration are summed up beautifully in the film above.

I hope this mini video has delighted and inspired you as much as it has me!
