Inner View: Inclusion 5 ~ Spinel
This interior view of a spinel immediately brings to mind the chains upon chains of different coloured lights that are wrapped around trees during special days! In Sri Lanka:)
You are looking at strings of hercynite octahedral crystals in an angular distribution in one plane within a reddish brown specimen. Hercynite is a variety of the spinel family.
Isn’t the natural arrangement remarkable! This particular gemstone was a gift by a good friend from Australia. Thanks to her I managed to capture this inclusion myself!
Spinel has a good hardness of 8 and a good toughness too – a great stone to start collecting x
