Cat’s Eye- a quick peek
Chatoyancy.
The word Chatoyancy is derived from the French ‘chat’ which means cat and ‘oeil’ which means eye. Cat’s Eye.
The gemstones above are Chrysoberyl Cats Eyes. One is in honey colour and the other in bluish green. This image was captured under the bright tropical sunlight in my garden to capture the defined eye, the band of light. In the shade, the honey coloured chrysoberyl looks like the colour of a comforting sparrow – a gentle, soft brownish hue with a hint of the yellow beak mixed in. I bought these several years ago while visiting a mine in Sri Lanka.
The band of light that you see lies at 90 degrees of and over an abundant amount of fine needle like inclusions lying in a parallel arrangement – just below the surface.
As you move the stone, the band of light slides across the surface – creating the cats eye effect. Its an internal reflection effect and it feels magical just looking at it.
The story behind these two simple and comfortable rings is that they carry a powerful reminder for my daughter and I. Very simply, that ‘God is’. The band of light lies across the skinny gold band, creating a cross shape. These were in celebration of having made it to the end of the year 2020, comparatively unscathed! A subtle but potent reminder of God, Who brought us through it all.
This was one year my family moved through each day with our eyes focused on Him and His miracles and possibilities.
We were hit from all sides, everyday there was a new drama, new fires to put out – like everyone else, everywhere in the world…
The thing about eternal spiritual principles and practices is just that – they’re eternal:) !
I thought she and I could do with a daily reminding of the Divine in our physical experience. Jewelry, especially a ring that can be seen by ourselves at all times, can trigger feelings of hope and security whether there’s a pandemic or not. On peaceful, joyful days as well as our toughest. In our everyday reality.
